Becoming by Michelle Robinson Obama

'Becoming is never giving up on the idea that there's more growing to be done.'

"Becoming" by Michelle Robinson Obama

Michelle mentions at the beginning of the book that she started taking Piano lessons from her very strict Aunt Robbie at the tender age of 4. And the first step of learning Piano is to find the key middle C. You find it, and you have the whole perspective lying clearly in front of you. You lose it and you lose the whole plot.
Life is like that too. To become your best version, you need to keep your Middle C in view.

Becoming is the autobiography of Michelle Obama, and very powerfully captures her journey from a middle class rental home at Southside, Chicago to entering Princeton, her career in law, relationship with Barack Obama, juggling motherhood with her campaigning duties and finally her life as the FLOTUS.

Such books are very hard to write as there is a heavy risk of them ending either on the boring or frivolous end of the spectrum. But Michelle has managed to keep the book informative, insightful and still saved it from the clutches of being a boring repertoire of her husband's achievements or a flex of her life at White House. As she writes, being FLOTUS is an unchartered territory, where roles are undefined but expectations and judgment is high nevertheless. This book was a similar taks and she nailed it.

She serves whole truth, healthy and green - unrefined and whole, like her initiative Let's Move! No sugarcoating. Be it the rampant gun violence in the States or ghettoisation of Black areas, she manages to shine a light on the capabilities and spirit of her other half but also highlights how the political life affected Malia and Sasha all through their childhood and adolescence.

It's a must read for all career oriented ladies, mothers and any ambitious human (or partner) in general.
Rating - 4.5/5 🌟

Also, a big shout out to Sahil for this wonderful gift. Books make you feel great. But what feels better? When someone makes you select them before sending them through. 😉 You won this.

PS don't forget to listen to 'This is for my Girls' anthem rendition by Michelle. Yes she sings and yes she's a Rockstar!!

Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight - A Review

(10 of 2021) 📚 'Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight' by Rujuta Diwekar #latepost 📚 If you regularly follow my posts, you must remember I posted about 'The Mindful Diet' last year. This book is a smarter and practical version of it, because as Rujuta Diwekar's dieting school goes, (i) it talks in terms of your genetic makeup, and rather than eating fancy super foods, it talks about why you should stick to the meal that your nans and grans promoted, and (ii) for a mean-but-not-lean Punjabi like me,  (and it's a big deal - because I've tried most of the (free and not so free) diet plans on the market which talk sh*t challenging your sanity) it won't stop you from consuming Ghee or dairy. 📚 The best thing about RD and this book is - it won't make tall promises and it simplifies eating for you. Praying for a waist like Kylie or a jawline like Kareena (bee-tee-dubs Kareena follows RD too 🤩 - I was sold at that point itself), we forge

Sputnik Sweetheart - A Book Review

"Why do people have to be this lonely? What's the point of it all? Millions of people in this world, all of them yearning, looking to others to satisfy them, yet isolating themselves. Why? Was the earth put here just to nourish human loneliness?" 🛰️ 'Sputnik Sweetheart' by Haruki Murakami 🛰️ Does it ever happen that you like an author's work very much, so much that you dread reading other works fearing you might lose the charm by overexposure, or the author may not be able to live up to the last work? Or am I the only weird one? I'm kinda sure 🤓 that it's the latter. I loved Murakami last when I read 'Kafka on the Shore' 4 years back. But then I dropped the idea of doing  a Murakami spree. But last week, I watched Prajakta Koli and Babil Khan talk about their book preferences and Sputnik Sweetheart came up. I had to pick it up. 🛰️ SS is a love triangle. A lonely love triangle. Lonely because the story has hardly any other charac
