Has it
ever happened to you that you are so sleepy that you just can't shun the warmth
of your cozy, soft bed, but you're so hungry at the same time that your bed
might soon become your grave if you don't get up and grab something to eat?! :D
Share with me you have faced such dilemmas, at least for once or twice, in your
lives, lest this guilt of being the laziest person on earth kills me.
On
coming to a new city, after spending 21 yrs (yes it's a long period.. Please
don't raise your brows till your hairline) of my life in the military
discipline of my home, I've realized that I'm not as disciplined and active, as
I used to give myself credit for.
But I
have a knack for surprising myself. It was the first obstacle race of my life
today, and second sporting event (never been too sporty :| books are just so
demanding and attractive at the same time (sorry if it reminds you of your high
school girlfriend :p 'demanding
and attractive')), but I'm happy that I'm finally getting to be the Jack of
another trade too-Sports and Fitness.
The
inspiration for this latest fad was not some new celebrity's fitness routine,
or the aim to fare well at some Delhi/Mumbai Half Marathon stuff, but the extra
8 kgs I gained in this one and a half year but it turned out to be a blessing
in disguise.
Apart from shedding some pounds, and getting my curves back in shape (yayeee!!), running has also helped me become more confident and determined in other strides of my life too.
The
event today was called XWarriors, and it was a commando styled run, with 15
kinds of obstacles in 4 km, like spidey, crawling through sand, jumping in and
out through bus windows, and what not! The medal and T were good, but the real
reward was the sense of accomplishment, and the feeling of 'I thought all
this while that I can't, until I did it today'. All in all despite a
not-so-good timing, my journey at running has begun.
It is
going to be a constant fight between my lazy bones and my XWarrior spirit, but
I will run, cuz I am an
XWarrior (please excuse the
cheesy lines. It's just the event hangover ;) )
But apart from trying to catch my breath, saving my
knees from getting bruised, and committing to work harder at my stamina -
buildup, a thought kept me constantly occupied during the race - a surging
feeling of gratitude towards the real warriors. Salute to the spirit of defense
of our country, who daily undergo such obstacles while fighting for us and
protecting us from external and internal threats, in weathers cold and warm,
without any cushions to take their fall, the groovy music to keep them pepped
up and volunteers shouting encouragements and holding out glasses of water.
So, let's keep running to keep fit for warring with other obstacles in the country. :)
Pull
up your socks all the lazy-bones out there! ;)
Love,
Enigma
